Dear Parents,
This week is Red Ribbon Week! At school, students will be participating in activities and discussions that highlight the importance of staying drug free. Here are the theme days for the rest of the week:
- Wednesday: Mustache Day
- Thursday: CrazyColorful Socks Day
- Friday: Wear your Spirit Shirt Day
Halloween
We will be having our parade outside again this year. Bring your camp chair and line up on the playground. The parade path will be marked so you’ll know where to place your chairs. If you live within walking distance from the school, please consider walking as parking may be limited. We’ll gather all the students and begin outside at about 8:50. Send your student in his/her costume ready to go at the beginning of the day.
As always, we ask for no masks or pretend or real weapons as part of their costume here at school. Save those items for other celebrations. Thanks to all our room parents who are preparing class parties for that afternoon. Be sure you have done the background check on the district website so you will be able to come volunteer. Don’t wait too long to do this part as it takes time to process and get in the system.

Choose Kindness
We are on the lookout for any acts of kindness at Altara. Here are some examples of kindness happening at our school these past couple of weeks. We have the best students!
Noah Briggs (2nd grade) Noah is always happy and willing to help others out!
Laurel Barton (1st grade) Laurel comforts others when they are feeling down.
Remie Carothers (1st grade) Remie does a great job helping those around her find page numbers and know what they are supposed to do!
Kaitlyn Vogeler (kindergarten) Kaitlyn helped a friend clean up Play Doh even though she didn’t play with it!
Laura Albertin (1st grade) Laura helped a new student with getting into Clever and also helping them log out. Thank you!
Janis Castanon Lugo (kindergarten) Janis chooses kindness in her friendships! She is such a nice friend and helps Liam in learning English words. Go, Janis!
Ella Traasdahl (kindergarten) Ella helped a friend who was having a hard time. She was very kind and played with him even when he was having a hard time.
Boston Hood (kindergarten) I can always count on Boston to have his eyes on me at the carpet. He smiles at his teacher and makes me feel happy.
Kaiden Thompson (5th grade) Kaiden shows kindness to his classmates by being patient and helpful. He always makes sure his partners are on task!
Quinn DeBoer (1st grade) Quinn shows kindness by helping others remember the rules and procedures. Thank you!
PTA News
This year’s theme for Red Ribbon Week is ‘Life is like a movie, film drug-free’. We kicked off Red Ribbon Week today with Pajama Day and distributed bracelets and stickers as a reminder to stay drug-free. Tomorrow, students are encouraged to wear a mustache as they pledge to live a drug-free lifestyle, and we’ll hand out popcorn during lunch. On Thursday, students can wear crazy or colorful socks, and we’ll tie a ribbon on the fence as a drug-free reminder. Finally, on Friday, all students will attend a special assembly with the Sandy City K9 unit. As always, we appreciate the volunteers who have signed up to make this week a success.
