Anxiety and School Attendance

It’s been so nice to welcome students back from winter break! It’s normal for some students to feel anxious about returning to school after time away. Changes in routines can make transitions feel harder.

Ways to help:

  • Bring your child to school, even if they are upset. Our Student Wellness Team professionals are here to support morning transitions and throughout the day.
  • Be consistent, clear, and confident. Set predictable morning routines and clearly communicate that attending school is the expectation. Try not to let your own worries show. Believe they can do it – and share that belief with them.
  • Praise brave behavior. Acknowledge and reward your child when they follow through, even when it’s hard.

Facing worries helps anxiety shrink over time, while avoiding them can make fears feel bigger. Every day counts!

♥️ Choose Kindness ♥️

We have the KINDEST students!

We are on the lookout for extraordinary acts of kindness at Altara. Here are some examples of kindness happening at our school:

Benjamin Bailey (kindergarten) Benjamin helped his teacher clean up a messy table. Thank you so much for helping the teacher.

Kaidan Patrick (Smith) Kaidan was very helpful to a student who was hurt. The student was very thankful.

Leo Young (kindergarten) Leo is so kind and polite every day! He volunteers to help put away things, push in chairs, get things for others and help his friends feel happy.

Violet Howard (kindergarten) Violet loves to play with friends during oral language. She always looks for a new friend to play with.

Lucie Lauzo (kindergarten) Lucie is such a kind friend. She is eager to help others and goes out of her way to be kind. Keep up the great work!

Giancarlo Gonzalez (5th grade) Giancarlo was very helpful to a student who was hurt. The student was very thankful!

Laken Tuttle (kindergarten) Laken is such a kind friend. He loves to help his friends build with magna-tiles and shares his toys! Way to go, Laken!

Camille Ash (kindergarten) Camille shows kindness in so many ways. She is always helpful and cleans up our classroom when it’s messy!
