Dear Parents, Thanks for your help with Career Day! It was a great morning last Friday. We appreciate your support! Digital Citizenship Week in CSD October 14-16, 2024, Canyons School District will be participating in our annual Digital Citizenship Week. As part of the Thrive Time curriculum adopted by the board in June of 2024, students get a lesson approximately every month around digital citizenship issues. Some of the topics include: Media balance & well-being. Privacy & security, Digital footprints & identity, Online relationships & communication, Cyberbullying, digital drama, & hate speech,News & media literacy. From cyberbullying and photo sharing to digital footprints and online safety, we want to help students and families address important topics and have meaningful conversations about making great choices in their digital lives. For the week of Digital Citizenship in October, we want to make this a time of celebration, awareness of the importance of digital citizenship, and a reinforcement of the skills they are learning throughout the year. Your student may receive stickers or participate in other fun activities to help remind and reinforce the value of being a good digital citizen. Please take time to ask your student about what they are learning and the fun activities they are participating in. Choose Kindness. We are on the lookout for any acts of kindness at Altara. Here are some examples of kindness happening at our school these past couple of weeks. We have the best students! Jameson Lewis (2nd grade) Jameson is always helping in class. He puts books away, cleans up tables and helps keep the floor free from trash. Thanks for being kind and helping out. Dajon Hamilton (3rd grade) Dajon is always willing to help anyone and anytime! At Altara Elementary, we are incredibly grateful for the amazing teachers and staff who make our school the best. Each month, we want to show our appreciation and spread a little gratitude their way. Together, we’ve logged over 200 volunteer hours, benefiting both our students and teachers! In September, we hosted the Room Parent Tea, introducing room moms to teachers and starting plans for classroom parties. We also coordinated volunteers for Picture Day and the vision screening. Our dads joined in for the annual Watch Dog Kickoff with a pizza party, and we supported our teachers with dinner during Parent-Teacher Conferences. At the same time, we hosted the Book Fair, raising funds for the school and teachers. The month wrapped up with an affirmative vote to grant funds to the school for replacing equipment used in our STEM program. We’re grateful for all of our volunteers who make these efforts possible!Join PTA and help support the many activities we provide throughout the year. https://altara.givebacks.com/store?limit=21&live=true Join our Volunteer List and help the magic happen! https://docs.google.com/file/d/1inPT2pGvJ-etzYoRZGQsToQz01L0FrRl/edit?usp=docslist_api&filetype=msexcel School Website: https://altara.canyonsdistrict.org/ Instagram: altaraelementary Parent Volunteer application link: https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/depts/external-relations/volunteer/ Upcoming Dates Oct. 8th—Secure Drill—If there’s a problem outside our building, we may be asked to Secure ourselves inside.
