Devices can be distracting — even for us adults! :car::speech_balloon: Use your next drive to chat with your kids about balance. Try a Common Sense Carpool Conversation podcast to get the conversation started. https://tinyurl.com/carpool3-5Links to an external site.

How are we doing?

Your feedback is important as we work to be responsive to our patrons and provide students with the learning opportunities, resources, and supports they need to succeed in school. Maybe you have a concern about your child’s classroom, Altara, curriculum, or a question that no one has been able to answer. Altara is your school, and we are here to listen and help.  Email feedback to  Julie.fielding@canyonsdistrict.org

Choose Kindness

We are on the lookout for any acts of kindness at Altara.  Here are some examples of kindness happening at our school these past few weeks.

We have outstanding students at our school!

Delilah Harris-Casey (4th grade) Delilah kindly puts our messy piles of papers together neatly without being asked.

Finn Hatch (3rd grade) Finn always looks for ways to help anyone. He is a kind and generous friend and happily helps his neighbor when things get hard. We love Finn!

Violet Hall (kindergarten) Violet loves to be kind by making bracelets and other art creations for classmates and Mrs. Platt.

Axel Sharp (2nd grade) Axel is always kind and helpful to his classmates! Thanks, Axel!

Samuel Greene (2nd grade) Samuel helped a classmate with some math problems. Thanks, Sam!

Genevieve Haws (kindergarten) Genevieve is such a kind friend! She is always playing with others on the playground and helping others! Way to go!

Lily Greene (kindergarten) Lily shows kindness in so many ways! During Morning Meeting she is always eager to give others a high five! Way to go!

Healing Conversations: CSD Hosts Suicide Prevention Nights for Families

Canyons School District is opening the doors to conversation — and connection — around an important topic facing families today: suicide prevention. In alignment with state law, Canyons this year will be offering free quarterly suicide prevention nights at the Canyons Family Center at Mount Jordan Middle School, 9351 Mountaineer Lane in Sandy. Each of the sessions listed below will provide families with the tools and insights to help parents and caregivers recognize when a child may be in distress and offer meaningful support.

SESSIONS

Tuesday, Nov. 18, 6-7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 11, 6-7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, April 21, 6-7:30 p.m.

Covered topics include: recognizing the warning signs of suicide and mental health struggles; understanding risk and protective factors for youth; tips for talking about mental health; and accessing community resources and professional counseling.

Questions? Contact the Canyons Family Center at 801-826-8190.
