Spirit Day this Friday

In celebration of our new kindergarten students starting their educational journey, the Kindergarten students will be having a College and Career Day this Friday.  All grades will support our newest students by wearing college gear that day.  Wear a fun t-shirt or hat from a favorite college!

Altara Choir

Altara Elementary is starting up choir again for the 3rd,4th, and 5th graders. Applications are in the front hall hanging boxes and in the library. Choir rehearsals will be Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:40 am. We will meet in the gym. Choir begins Thursday, August 28th, but we will accept choir applications until Tuesday, September 9th.

Applications to participate can be turned into the front office or the library.

School Community Council

Serving on our School Community Council is a wonderful way for parents and teachers to contribute and help with both academic and safety issues at our school. The school receives an annual dividend from the school trust lands. Our council helps determine how these funds will be used.  This year our school received about $85,000 from the School LAND Trust Program, which has all been targeted to aide support for our students. The council reviews and prepares academic plans for our students each year.  All plans are reviewed for final approval by our school board. Councils also act in an advisory capacity to school and school district administrations.  The committee meets on a Friday afternoon of most months at 2:00 pm.

Every public school in Utah has a School Community Council.  Membership terms are for two years.  Elections are held at the beginning of each school year, if needed.

Parent members must have a student attending the school at least one of the two years of their term of service.  For more information, please visit www.schoollandtrust.org .

We have a couple of openings for parents to participate on the council.  If you would like to serve on Altara’s SCC, please let the principal know by this Friday, August 29th.   julie.fielding@canyonsdistrict.org  

If more parents are interested than we have spots available, we will conduct a vote.  

Parent Volunteer 

Please make sure you are all set for volunteering at our school by using the link below. This has to be done yearly. Once you have been cleared you will receive an email indicating that you are able to volunteer in Canyons School District schools and special events. This also has to be done if you plan on being a volunteer for field trips.

Wheels

Please be sure to remind your student to “walk their wheels” (bicycle, scooter, etc.) when they are on school grounds and when they are crossing the street or crosswalks.

✨ Room Parent Tea ✨

If you signed up to be a room parent in your child’s classroom, we’d love for you to join us at our Room Parent Tea on Friday, September 5, from 1:30–2:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Refreshments will be served!

This is a great opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, learn about the events planned for the year, and start making plans together.
