Miss Fielding Monday Minute – January 8, 2024

Dear Families,
Super cold weather has arrived and will likely be here for the next couple of months.  Our policy is when the temperature is 22 degrees or lower, it is an inside day.  If the temperature is higher than that, but is quite breezy or storming, we may still call it an inside day.  Watch the flags outside to know if students should come straight into the building instead of lining up with their class as usual.  On inside days, students come into the building and wait in the front area until 8:15 when we take them to the gym.  They are supervised there in the gym until the first bell rings and then make their way to their classroom.  All parents and visitors must sign in to the system in order to go past the front locked areas.   If you would like to wait with your child on those mornings when it is an inside day, please stay in the front area of the building with your child rather than going to the gym.  Thanks for helping us keep everyone safe.

Winter Clothing

Please make sure your child is dressed for this winter weather so that when it is above 22 degrees, s/he can enjoy being outside for their recess times.  Send them with gloves, hat, scarf, boots and a warm coat.  It often warms up some throughout the day and we go outside for recesses, even when it’s an inside morning.  If you need help with acquiring those winter clothes items for your child, please contact our social worker, Mrs. Foster.  Her email is:  Bethany.foster@canyonsdistrict.org

Teacher of the Year Nominations

It’s that time of year we get to nominate a teacher who has made a difference for our child.  Teacher of the Year nominations are due Feb. 2nd.   You can click on this link to nominate an Altara teacher.  Teacher of the Year Nomination Portal

School Choir

Our school choir will start up again on Jan. 23rd.  This if for students in 3rd-5th grades.  A sign-up note with information was sent home with every student in those grades last week.  The last day to sign up is Jan. 26th.  If your child is interested, please be sure to return that permission form.

Kindergarten Registration

We are sending home a flyer with the information about Kindergarten registration today. There is a link included to complete the enrollment application and a link if your family needs to fill out a permit. We ask that all enrollments be completed by March 29, 2024. We will have a Kindergarten Orientation sometime in April, so watch for further information for the date. All incoming Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2024.

Before/After school Playground

Just a reminder that there is no playground supervision in the mornings before school or afternoons after school.  Students will be asked to stay off the equipment unless a parent is there to supervise them.  Safety is our first priority, and we have reminded our students about this expectation as well.
