Miss Fielding’s Monday Minute – October 16, 2023

Dear Parents,
This week we will be focusing on Digital Citizenship.  We’ll continue to discuss this important topic throughout the year, but this week will be a daily focus.

Red Ribbon Week—Oct. 24th-27th
Here’s what’s coming next week, as PTA celebrates Red Ribbon Week at Altara:
Tuesday (Oct 24): Red Ribbon Spirit Day
·      Everyone wear Red for the day
·       Students will sign a pledge and tie ribbons on the fence in the parking lot during their lunch recess.
·      Spirit night at Café Zupas (Draper location)  Let them know you’re from Altara!
Wednesday (Oct 25): Crazy Hair Day
·      Students will receive a pencil
Thursday (Oct 26): Hawaiian Day
·      Each student will receive a lei to wear
Friday (Oct 27): Pajama Day
·      Students will receive stickers

Dual Immersion Lottery—Families of Kindergarten students
For those families who are wanting their student to be in the Spanish Dual Immersion program, the lottery has now opened for applications.  Families apply during their child’s kindergarten year to begin the program in 1st grade.  Here’s a link to an information page with another link to the application.  https://dual.canyonsdistrict.org/#/ElementaryDLI
The window to apply closes on Nov. 21st.

Halloween
We will be having our parade outside this year.  Bring your camp chair and line up on the playground.  The parade path will be marked so you’ll know where to place your chairs.   If you live within walking distance from the school, please consider walking as parking may be limited.  We’ll gather all the students and begin outside at about 9:10.  Send your student in his/her costume ready to go at the beginning of the day.
As always, we ask for no masks or pretend or real weapons as part of their costume here at school.  Save those items for other celebrations.  Thanks to all our room parents who are preparing class parties for that afternoon.  Be sure you have done the background check on the district website so you will be able to come volunteer.  This link is below.
