Dear Families,
The cell phone policy at Altara is that devices are stored in student backpacks during the school day. Students can’t use their devices to record other students, nor use them to text and call during the day, or play games on them. We have been seeing all these activities with cell phones and want to remind students and families of our policy. We are also seeing an increased use of watches being used to text and call during the day. If students are using them for that purpose, we will ask them to put it in their backpack to be stored there during the school day just as we do with cell phones.
We recognize that parents may occasionally need to get a message to their child during the day concerning pick-up if plans have changed. You are welcome to call the front office to deliver the message or convey that through your child’s device at the end of the day. Messages during instruction do interrupt the learning. Thanks for supporting Altara and your student’s responsible use of technology.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Next week we have parent teacher conferences. Our scheduler will close at 10:00 AM tomorrow for you to sign up for a time that works for you. If you haven’t signed up for a time yet, please do so as soon as you can. After it closes, teachers will go in and assign time to families that haven’t scheduled yet. If you need help, please call the front office.
Along with conferences, our PTA is sponsoring the Book Fair (Spring 2024 book fair principal letter). It will be open on Wednesday night from 3:05-8:00 and again on Thursday afternoon and evening from 1:25-7:00. Our fair has grown and will now be located in the gym. Stop by and see what new, fun books are available!
2024-25 Kindergarten
Do you know of a neighbor that has a child turning 5 years old by Sept. 1st? Please let them know they need to register their child for kindergarten! We don’t have obvious ways to connect to families not already in our system, so your help is greatly appreciated. We want to ensure we have enough staff for the number of kindergarten students coming to Altara. Thanks!

Fifth-Grade Students, Parents Invited to Maturation Programs
To ensure fifth-grade students and their parents are able to take advantage of Canyons District’s popular maturation program, eight presentations have been scheduled through the month of March at four locations. The aim with this program is to provide consistent, sensitive and approved health and maturation instruction districtwide. All girls and boys presentations are conducted by Carrie Ann Kemp, a popular professional speaker who has been educating and entertaining young audiences, and their parents, for nearly 25 years. Families may attend the presentation that best fits their schedule. Parents are advised to leave younger siblings at home.
