Dear Parents,
A Parent Square message went out last Friday with information about how to sign up for an appointment for Parent/Teacher conferences at the end of this month. The window is open now until Feb. 14th to set up that appointment time.
Volunteer Application
Are you planning to volunteer for your child’s valentine party next week? You will need to have filled out the district’s Volunteer Application form before then. This must be done annually, so if you did it at the beginning of the school year, you are good to go. Click on the link in purple down below if you haven’t completed that step and would like to volunteer at Altara. It could take a day or so for the system to complete the process, so don’t wait until the last minute. We truly appreciate the support of our community!
Front Office Door Closed
For added security, we’ve been asked to keep the door closed from the entryway into our front office. We want you to feel welcome in coming to your child’s school and wanted you to know that we now need to keep that door closed. The door is not locked, so please come right in!
Canned Food Drive
Our Student Council is sponsoring a food drive to benefit the Utah Food Bank. Bring any non-perishable food items to help families who need extra assistance. We will continue collecting food items through this Friday, Feb. 7th. Thanks for any support you can give our community!
Spirit Day
This Friday is a special spirit day—Super Bowl Spirit Day. Wear Green if you are rooting for the Eagles to win the Super Bowl. Wear Red if you are hoping the Chiefs win, and wear black if you don’t have a preference.
Teacher of the Year Nominations end today
The window to nominate a teacher from Altara for Teacher of the Year honors ends today, Feb. 3rd. Please click on the link below to nominate a teacher who has made a difference for your child. We have some awesome teachers here at Altara!

Choose Kindness
We are on the lookout for any acts of kindness at Altara.
Zara Skalabrin (kindergarten) Zara is such a kind friend! She always includes others and helps clean up the classroom! Go Zara!
Adeline Reeb-Elizondo (kindergarten) Adeline helped to clean up in an area she didn’t play in.
Lael Kim (2nd grade) Lael picked up a student’s coat off the floor and hung it up for her so it didn’t get stepped on.
P.J. Belford (2nd grade) P.J. was honest in giving back to the teacher a class point he found on the ground.
Sadie Wilson (kindergarten) Sadie is very thoughtful by making pictures for others!
Trent Vinson (1st grade) Trent volunteered to be partners with a student who didn’t have a partner in P.E.
Zane Peters (4th grade) Zane helped tidy up the classroom and pick up papers without being asked.
Khloe Palmer (kindergarten) Khloe is such a kind friend! Lately, she has been helping others clean up their centers during oral language! Keep up the good work.

For those who have a student entering Kindergarten next fall:
Kindergarten enrollment and registration
If you have a child turning 5 years old by Sept. 1st, 2025, they will be entering kindergarten next fall. The window to enroll your child ends on Feb. 28th. Families must first enroll their student (a one-time event), and then annually must register their students. Registration usually happens around August 1st. We are doing the enrollment process now.
Please log into Skyward and go to New Student Enrollment. Fill out the information for your new student who will be starting kindergarten next year.
We are planning to have Kindergarten Orientation on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 2:00 here at Altara. This will give you and your child a chance to meet the teachers and hear about what to expect in kindergarten.
If you have a neighbor or friend that you know has a child this age, please let them know the process. Here’s a link for families who don’t already have Skyward access to start the enrollment process: https://student.canyonsdistrict.org/scripts/wsisa.dll/WService=wsEAplus/skyenroll.w
If you want your student to participate in a half-day kindergarten experience, please let the principal know by Feb. 28th.
