Monday Minute

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year and welcome back!  We hope your holidays were wonderful.  We’re glad to be back in school and into our routines this week.   Tomorrow we’ll be having a fire drill to practice our emergency evacuations.  Each month we complete an emergency drill to keep our skills sharp in case of a true emergency.  We are using an app called Crisis Go to communicate throughout the procedure.

STEAM Night! We are excited for STEAM Night coming next week on Jan. 14th.  We’ll have at least 13 different hands-on STEAM activities your child can explore.  It will be open-house style, with food trucks here from 5:30-7:30.  Bring the family and enjoy an evening of food and fun STEAM activities! Register now for free parenting classes, student support groups

The Canyons Family Center has begun accepting registrations for its winter and spring lineup of classes for parents and students. Located at Mt. Jordan Middle School, the Center is a free resource for all Canyons District families. Its licensed staff provide individual counseling and sponsor student support groups and parent education classes. Class topics range from how to cope with ADHD and anxiety to building self-esteem. In addition, classes can be taken to resolve student disciplinary records and fines. Families can also register for intakes for counseling services or referral to private mental health providers. “The Family Center is a place where families come together to discover genuine avenues to assist each other, connect with each other, and learn from each other,” said Canyons District Prevention Specialist Kelly Redican. The next series of courses begin the week of Jan. 14. To register and learn more, visit canyonsdistrict.org. Questions? Center staff are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 801-826-8190.
