Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day and Wear Purple 11.14.24
Ruby Nell Bridges Hall (born September 8, 1954) is an American civil rights activist. She was the first African American child to attend formerly whites-only William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis on November 14, 1960. She is the subject of a 1964 painting “The Problems We All Live With”, by Norman Rockwell. Ruby Bridges has always been civil rights advocate. Though her experience in school was harrowing due to blatant racism and the targeting of her family, Bridges never once missed a day. Remember to Walk to School on Thursday, November 14th and wear purple in honor of Ruby Bridges. We have some Ruby Bridges swag that will be handed out to those who walk and wear purple! Let’s all honor Ruby Bridges!

Thank you to all of the veterans and their families who visited the school today for our “Bring a Veteran to School’ event. Over 40 veterans joined us, visiting students’ classrooms and enjoying muffins, donuts and juice afterward. We appreciate your service and are grateful to have you as part of our school community.
Don’t forget our November Spirit Night at Pier 49 Pizza! November 21 from 11-9pm. If your business is ordering lunch that day, corporate lunches and gift cards are also included! Please mention Altara when you order so that our school receives credit. The winning class will get a pizza party!
