Join us for Dinner and School-Related Topics of Discussion

See the invitation below for Altara parents and guardians.  I will also be in attendance that evening.

It starts with a question. What is being done to keep schools secure, welcoming, and safe? How is artificial intelligence being used in the classroom, and are there safeguards in place to ensure students are using digital tools responsibly? In Canyons District, we work hard to not only inform our community but to engage in dialogues. With that in mind, Canyons invites parents and guardians to the 2025 Canyoneering Academy Parent Information Night. This lecture series is free and open to the public. At the event, families will hear from Canyons Superintendent Dr. Rick Robins and will have their choice of participating in three workshops covering a variety of topics, from digital and school safety to suicide prevention, artificial intelligence, drug use, and vaping. Dinner will be served from 5 to 6:15 p.m. and there will be table displays where parents can connect with school personnel and school resources. The workshops start at 6:20 p.m. (see schedule below). Spanish translators will be available.

  • Thursday, March 13 at Indian Hills Middle (1180 E. Sanders Rd., Sandy)

Choose Kindness

We are on the lookout for any acts of kindness at Altara.

Emmy Hale (kindergarten) Emmy is always helping others in quiet ways. She often helps clean up in areas she doesn’t play in during oral language block. 😉

Kaleb Nielsen (kindergarten) Kaleb really cares about others’ feelings. He gave a hug to a classmate who was feeling sad. 🙂

Uriah Gasologa (1st grade) Uriah helped another student get their jacket so they could be ready for recess.

Ali Sitake (1st grade) Ali helped another student find the right page in their workbook.

Jaxson Westenskow (2nd grade) Jaxson has been an amazing friend to a boy in our class! 😉

Fifth-Grade Students, Parents Invited to Maturation Programs

Canyons District’s popular maturation program proves that, while growing up can be hard, talking about it needn’t be.

Each year, CSD sponsors an informational program for fifth-grade students and their parents with the aim of providing consistent, sensitive and approved health and maturation instruction districtwide. All girls and boys presentations are conducted by Carrie Ann Kemp, a professional speaker who has been educating and entertaining young audiences, and their parents, for nearly 25 years.

Eight presentations have been scheduled from March 11 through April 2, 2025. Families may attend the presentation that best fits their schedule. Parents are advised to leave younger siblings at home.

Spanish interpreters will be available at the Midvale Middle location.

How to Help Kids Spot Misinformation and Disinformation

A lot of news media and social media content is designed to grab our attention and keep us engaged. And whether we’re getting our news from a TV network, TikTok, or YouTube, it can be hard to tell what’s accurate these days. Knowing that the news we consume can be biased, misreported, or even fake, it’s crucial that all of us—especially young people—learn to decode the information we encounter. Visit https://cnyns.org/3ZrCTSFLinks to an external site.  for more tips to help kids identify misinformation and disinformation.
