  • Other issues as needed

Notes:

  • The next meeting is scheduled for Mar. 12th at 5:00 pm.
  • The Land Trust Progress Report form is not yet available. Principal Magann will prepare a rough

draft for review and discussion at the next meeting.

  • Information regarding the designated Safe Walking Route including a map, text description and

list of issues/ concerns was distributed to the SCC members. Parents are responsible for getting their children from their home to the designated route. Cameras will be installed on the side of the school facing the walking trail that is under construction. The wiring for the cameras has been completed.

  • Principal Magann has requested a redesign of the parking lot to improve safety and utility. The Sandy City parking engineer has evaluated the parking lot and the redesign is under consideration. Improvements may include moving the parking lot island.
  • SAGE testing will be done in the spring and will replace CRT testing. SAGE is an adaptive, computer based test with more writing required. The writing portion is not time limited and will be grading by a person during this first year of implementation. Grading will be done by a computer in the future. Teachers will be encouraged to do practice tests. Additional information about SAGE is available on the Canyons District website via the parent portal. A newsletter will be sent to parents regarding SAGE testing.
  • A summary of the District Academic Framework was distributed to the SCC members. There are no major changes in the content of the curriculum but the method of teaching the curriculum will change. There will be small group, explicit and scaffolded instruction. Classroom positive behavior interventions and supports will be utilized.
  • A draft of the Parent Survey was reviewed by the SCC. After another revision the survey will be posted for parents most likely via Survey Monkey and perhaps using its adaptive mode to present additional questions based upon initial answers. The survey should include the option to enter comments and suggestions either at the end of each question and/ or at the end of the survey. The survey should inform parents of the total number of questions at the beginning and should include a “Thank You” page at the end. Although the survey will be anonymous it may include an option to enter contact information for those parents wanting follow up. The wording of a question regarding how welcome or included children feel at Altara was discussed. “How welcome does your child feel at school?” was suggested. The group discussed how to get parents more interested in volunteering at school and how to include this in the survey. Reminders about the importance of volunteers in ensuring the children get extra content (for example: Art Through the Ages and Junior Achievement) were discussed. Ways to encourage volunteer participation and follow through were discussed including making parents aware that the school can provide formal documentation if their employer supports community service. Brett will revise the Parent Survey and submit it to principal Magann for review.
